Heading: Courses

The Family Church Christchurch runs a number of different courses from time to time. Below you will find some of these courses outlined. We also run Alpha and Parenting Courses, which you can find out more about in the Community section, and as well as attending courses in our own Church, people go further afield to larger conferences. Many attend the Newfrontiers leadership conferences in Brighton, and our youth and children’s workers also attend national conferences from time to time.

If you would like more information on any of our courses, then please contact us. Anyone is welcome to attend, whether they come to Church or not, and if you are a couple intending to get married soon, we would to be very willing to take you through a marriage preparation course, as we feel sure that this is of huge benefit to any couple entering into marriage.

Freedom in Christ
From time to time, we run the 'Freedom in Christ' course. This course will help you to overcome problems in your life that are caused by things that happened in your past. For more information please go to the Freedom in Christ page.

THE
MARRIAGE

COURSE

How to build a healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime

What is the Marriage Course?
This course is very practical., giving any married couple the tools to build a strong and healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime. The course, whilst based on Christian principles, is very helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background.

Over eight evenings spent together, couples talk about important issues that can sometimes get swept under the carpet in the rush of daily life.

Topics covered include: recognising each other's needs, learning to communicate effectively, resolving conflict, healing past hurt, knowing how to make each other feel loved, relating to parents and in-laws, good sex, making time for each other, and having fun together.

Privacy as a couple is always respected - there is no group discussion and no requirement to disclose anything about your relationship to anyone else.

What's involved?
Each evening begins with a candlelit meal. There is then a talk, followed by an opportunity to discuss the topic together as a couple. The setting is welcoming, relaxed and unthreateneing.

Who is it for?
The Marriage Course is for any married couple who want to build a strong and lasting relationship, especially:

• those who want to enhance their marriage

• those in the first five years of marriage

• those at a challenging stage in their marriage
eg. birth of a child, career change, teenagers at home, the 'empty nest'

• those struggling with issues in their marriage

Please contact us for details of course dates, fees and any further information.
Courses usually take place on Thursday evenings, and are held at Hope House.

Heading: Linstening Course

It can make a real difference to someone if they feel that they are really being listened to. The listening course is based on The Acorn Christian Listeners course, (click on website link on the left ). It aims to equip folk to listen more effectively, and thus be better able to help people. This is not a counselling course, but it bridges the gap between the counselling services at one extreme, and just being a friend at the other end of the spectrum, It will help you to know how to listen properly, when to speak, and when not to.

Heading: Blowing Your Cover

Blowing Your Cover is a course designed to help Christians confidently explain the Christian faith to their family and friends. It has been developed by Kevin Higham (a member of the Family Church) together with Mike Sprenger. It consists of six multimedia training sessions that will inspire and challenge, plus accompanying workbooks. Click on the logo down the left hand side to go to the Blowing Your Cover website and find out more about the course.

Heading: Encounter Weekend. The Encounter weekend is a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life that gives people a chance to spend some quality time with God. They are given space to hear what God is saying, and to deal with issues as they arise. The weekend takes place at Avon Tyrrell out at Bransgore in the New Forest, and the emphasis of the weekend is very much on a personal time between each individual and God.
